BACKGROUND STORY

Anja Neya was born on the eastern forest past the grand rivers, facing the sea and it's vastyness. Since her birth, she was considered a frail child, and her mother used to think she would loose her at an early age. So she prayed every day to Ishvara to grant her child a life full of joy and meaning, even if this costed her own life. And, against all what could be thought, the girl survived and gained strenght as any normal child. Even when terrible plagues scourged nearby towns, the child was protected by the loving watch of Ishvara, and thus the girl started to think she was actually inmortal. As many calamities had been set over the people of the nearby town, they searched for the cause and, a peasant, who had been saved in the past by Anja Neya's mother, spoke about the hengeyokai and her daughter that lived in the nearby forest. Desperate, the people set the forest aflame, and the mother of Anja Neya sacrificed herself to protect her child, throwing her to a river. She would have met sure death if it wasn't for the loving hands of Ishvara, who took any harm from her. So she survived, but understood she wasn't inmortal, just lucky and, someday, she may be caught and killed, like her mother. Her mother had given her life for her, and she understood this, but she was ashamed to realize this sacrifice was in vain, for sooner or later she would die. However, she heard from travelers going and comming of the teachings of the grand arhat Subhuti, a disciple of buddha himself, who claimed among many things the anyone following the teachings buddha gave him could reach inmortality and scape samsara forever. Anja Neya couldn't understand this properly, for she was barely 10 at the time. All she cared was to fullfill her mother's wish and become inmortal. At first, Subhuti would reject her, for he claimed to be too busy already with much more promising practicioners, but Anja Neya's stubborness and will pleased him enough to let her become her student. The rest of her life until her current 17 years, Anja Neya spent day and night reading every single manuscript Subhuti and other arhats could offer to her in the search for inmortality, however, she soon was disspointed to learn that the inmortality Subhuti was claiming was the simple scape of Samsara, what she wasn't interested in. She wanted to be inmortal here and now, not in a distant reality of some sort where she wasn't exactly alive. After having a severe discussion with her master, Subhuti send the young samaneri in the search for a set of "Missing Sutras" that supposedly contained the true formal of "mortal inmortality", located somewhere to the west, past the grand rivers. Anja Neya bowed to return the Sutras to Subhuti after learning from them, so he could teach their content to other samaneri and samaneras, but Subhuti said instead that finding the sutras Anja Neya wanted was so hard on it's own, that he would probably had reached enlightnement and scaped the Samsara before she could bring them. Indignated at such mocking, Anja Neya sweared to bring the sutras and also write the "Anjaneyayana" before Subhuti reached enlightnement. Subhuti found this so amusing that he accepted the challenge, proposing that if Anja Neya failed she would have to give away her human form to become the animal spirit she really was. Anja Neya hesitated, but her pride was stronger than that, and she accepted the challenge. The lands of the West are big and unknown to Anja Neya, but that's a minor detail for someone so fixed into finding inmortality and homenaging a noble sacrifice...

holy moly,there alote of details,nice art ^^

Someone asked me to make an RP character for an RP Campaign themed on orient. The person was thinking in something similar to InuYasha, but since I confess my lack of indeep knowledge of Japanese old culture, and the fact it has been so abused by anime and other sources, I decided using instead legends that aren't so used, as it happens with Buddhism and Hindi legends, such as the ones on the Ramayana.

Anjaneya is actually the "nickname" of Hannuhman, the vannara (hindian monkeyfolk) that helped Rama to recover her wife on Ramayana, and is probably from where the legend of Zung Wukong from Journey To The West originally came from. I spent entire days browsing the wikipedia for data on buddhism and it's related legends to make this character, thus the amount of detail.

I based most of her looks on Noa from Full Metal Alchemist Movie, and specially on Donovan Baine from DarkStalker's, since he looks like a buddhist monk from the 3 countries (Janpan, China & India) at the same time, and maybe a little from Anith of the Arabian Team on Shaman King.

"Do we want a cute animal mascot thing?"
"Let's not go there until we're desperate. The 'cute animal mascot' idea usually just results in multiple lacerations."

Well, I don't do manga because it both exceeds my capacities and my patience, but I DO write a lot. Anja Neya was not originally planned to be part of any novel, it was just a character made up for the RP request I received from someone very dear. However, since the RP seems to be temporaly canceled, and since I have worked so hard on her, I had been seeking a good place where I can squeeze her among my 42 novels. I think she would fitt good on "Outback: Shade Of Autumn", the realm of "The Child In Us" from the "Le Roi Est Mort, Vive Le Roi" region may could make a wonderfull home for her, unless someone comes up with a better idea here. I get the feeling this girl is going to get fans. *giggle*
